Selling my gs500 because I don't need/ can't afford two bikes and a car. I recommend this model to anyone looking to get into riding, since it's super forgivable but can still ride comfy on the highway without any issues. I could see someone owning a bike like this for many years. I just started her up a few times over the past week after winter storage and it runs exactly how it did when I put it away. Currently not insured but with cash in hand you can ride it around the block and I could insure it for a day for serious inquirers.
The good: Paint is in excellent condition, rides really well, super comfy, will probably run forever if you take good care of it. Quick enough to give you a thrill but like I said, won't buck you off if you're just learning or are a little rusty. Also these are super easy bikes to work on. These bikes were built with a vacuum-activated petcock which tended to fail but I replaced that with a gravity fed petcock. Tires have tons of tread left on them, brakes are good. I cleaned the carbs before storing it and gave it an oil change so you can ride it away no problem.
The bad: Throttle cable is routed a little tight, which means when you turn the handles all the way to the left it revs up at idle. This has never affected me while riding so I didn't bother looking further into the There is a negligible amount of surface rust on the frame which is not very noticeable and is definitely not compromising to the structure. Finally, there are some scratches on the engine side case. If you've got some black paint this is a non-issue.
